When Montgomery’s Furniture Gallery in Sioux Falls set out to build a dedicated design studio, they needed custom commercial casework that balanced high-end retail aesthetics with everyday functionality. The design team required a space to consult with clients, review architectural drawings, compare fabric and finish samples, and keep extensive material libraries organized.
Creative Surfaces designed, built, and installed custom commercial casework, work surfaces, and specialized storage solutions tailored specifically to the layout and operational workflow of the studio.
This project involved the following elements:
Custom Reception Desk with Integrated Storage
The first thing clients see when entering the studio, the custom reception desk runs just over eleven feet and combines a welcoming design with practical workspace and storage. A raised transaction top provides a dedicated space for greeting clients, while file drawers on the staff side keep documents organized. Dark laminate cabinetry, matte quartz countertops, and waterfall edges give the desk a polished, modern finish.
Custom Branding, Lighting & Material Display Features
A warm walnut accent adds contrast to the dark cabinetry, with LED lighting highlighting the reception area. Behind the desk, a cork-faced half wall provides a practical space for displaying fabric swatches, material samples, and project notes. The backlit Montgomery’s logo adds a distinctive finishing touch.
Design Studio Work Table
The freestanding 72-inch collaborative work table gives designers a dedicated space to review architectural drawings, compare finishes, and meet with clients. Finished on all sides, it can be used from any direction, while full-length drawers provide convenient storage for drafting tools, binders, and samples. Its white surface creates a neutral backdrop for reviewing fabrics, paint chips, and other materials.
Custom Tile & Stone Sample Storage Cabinets
Three matching freestanding cabinets provide 85 slots for tile and stone sample boards. Angled dividers keep samples upright and easy to browse, while finished end panels allow the cabinets to stand independently throughout the studio.
The Finished Space
The completed design studio delivers a unified environment where client consultations, material presentations, and showroom storage function seamlessly together. Every millwork piece was custom-built in our Sioux Falls manufacturing facility to meet exact dimensional and durability requirements.
